It has been encouraging these past few days to see the care that state, local, and federal officials have taken to not play "the blame game” while there is still so much urgent work to be done in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region.

For example, unnamed White House aides went to great lengths to not blame New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin for leaving hundreds of busses idle while the city’s poor searched in vain for ways to comply with his evacuation order. “Look, people are still being rescued,” commented the aide, “So we’re not going to get into how those busses sat there until it was too late and that they now stand ruined and unusable in five feet of water.”

“That would be unseemly,” he added....
