The Post hasn't honestly covered ANSWER or United For Peace and Justice in the stories where they mentioned them, so it's not a big shift to see those groups completely disappear in Petula Dvorak's Metro story today, Human Mosaic About to Take Shape in D.C.:
Downtown Washington will be a busy and eclectically populated piece of American turf this weekend, with protesters, counter-protesters, international bankers, bookworms, baseball fans and enthusiasts of the odd-looking, two-wheeled human transporters known as Segways descending on the nation's capital.
In addition to today's antiwar rally, march and concert near the White House and Washington Monument, expected to draw about 100,000 people, the Mall will be the site of the National Book Festival sponsored by the Library of Congress every year...
The story is an unremarkable survey of the wacky human mosaic, plus traffic problems. It's also the only story anywhere in today's Post that mentions the demonstrations. I imagine there will be more coverage tomorrow, but this seems anemic.
Though I'm not there myself, I have two friends on the scene who have volunteered to send me their digital photos of the event. I hope to post those later today or tomorrow.
Meanwhile the Washington Times isn't yet bored by the demonstration, running Party's leaders to avoid protests today:
War protesters will hear from a few congressional Democrats as they rally in Washington this weekend, but top party leaders will be conspicuously absent.
Neither Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada nor House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will be speaking, nor will potential presidential candidates Sens. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Kerry....
