When asked by Matt Lauer on The Today Show whether she thought that the opposition to Harriet Miers nomination to the Supreme Court may be based partly on qualificationism, Laura Bush answered, “Well, yes, I think that’s part of it. If she had been someone with a great deal of experience, or a background of any kind suited to the Supreme Court I don’t think you’d be seeing this reaction, no.”
Miers’ conservative opponents rejected the charge outright. “I would expect liberals to play the ‘qualification card’ not the White House. It is simply outrageous to suggest that we are against Miers only because she is not competent to sit on the Supreme Court. We don't need to play that game when we have already gathered convincing evidence that she's a woman.”...
