Well, I'm glad to see washingtonpost.com finally posted the Justice Dept.'s complaint (.pdf) about a Nov. 6 story by Barton Gellman about national security letters, a letter it merely referenced dismissively in a follow-up story Nov. 30 by Christopher Lee. When I blogged about this, I thought it was... unfortunate that the high-techy post.com couldn't find a scanner or something so readers could judge the complaint, by assistant attorney general William Moschella, for themselves.
Still, I can't help noticing that 1) The letter is made available only in a cumbersome .pdf file and B) It apparently was posted only after the Post, in an Editor's Note up this morning, prepared a lenghty point-by-point rebuttal. And I love this line:
Moschella's letter offered 17 additional allegations of factual error. Many relied on assertions that the article implied or insinuated things it did not, in fact, say.
