My own dear Penn State has hosted some of the worst PC debacles in history, but I'll pass the crown for now to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, which will permit a lecturer to teach the "controlled demolition" nutjub theory about the Twin Towers on 9/11. As part of a course titled Islam: Religion and Culture--
"There is no question that Mr. Barrett holds personal opinions that many people find unconventional," [Provost Patrick] Farrell says. "These views are expected to take a small, but significant, role in the class. To the extent that his views are discussed, Mr. Barrett has assured me that students will be free - and encouraged - to challenge his viewpoint."
Will they be free to say that Kevin Barrett is a nutcase at best, and whoever approved this decision are nutcase enablers? Might almost be worth it.
"Unconventional" is a Toyota Prius. Unconventional is, I don't know, out-and-proud gay Muslims. Advocating a theory that the terror attacks are a hoax orchestrated by the American government is an intellectual felony. The University perfumes this nonsense with statements about "freedom of speech," but that freedom doesn't actually require taxpayer-funded institutions to promote unsupportable fantasies.
UPDATE: Althouse says Let's go to the videotape
UPDATE: Via Michelle Malkin, local radio host Jessica McBride provides linformation about a left-wing conference called the Midwest Social Forum, funded partially by the university. As one sided as those affairs usually are, that's no surprise, but we learn that Barrett, who spoke there, also believes some kind of conspiracy arranged the death of Sen. Paul Wellstone, by arranging the crash of his plane. McBride got her information from John McAdams of Marquette, and here's his full report.
