After the latest Hezbollah raid across the Lebanese border, Israel is launching a serious offensive against Islamofascist terror. Omar at Iraq the Model sums things up, and you never know, some Democrats might read him :
From an Iraqi perspective I believe that a powerful strike to Hizbollah will be in Iraq's national interest. Hizbollah is Iran's and Syria's partner in feeding instability in Iraq as there were evidence that this terror group has a role in equipping and training insurgents in Iraq and Hizbollah had more than once openly showed support for the "resistance" in Iraq and sponsored the meetings of Baathist and radical Islamist militants who are responsible for most of the violence in Iraq.
Iran, Syria, Hamas and Hizbollah have made it clear that their mission is to fight back the American plans in the Middle East, to me that is equal to saying that their mission is to stop Iraq from becoming a stable democratic country to prevent democracy from spreading to the rest of the region....
Michael Ledeen has the go-to column today on the war, with Iran as the centerpiece:
You cannot escape the mullahs. You must either defeat them or submit to their terrible vision. There is no other way.
With typical, nonsensical statements like this, from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a Post account, that's clear:
"We don't want an escalation in the south, nor war," he said. "But if the Israelis want an escalation, then we are ready for a confrontation and to its furthest extent. If Israel chooses confrontation, we are ready, and it should expect surprises."
You can't reason with this. Cross the border, kill Israeli soldiers, kidnap those whom you have not killed....but we don't want an escalation... If Israel chooses confrontation, we are ready..
Fight, submit or die, choose one. The last two options don't include preserving Western Civilization.
UPDATE: Kesher Talk prints an email from Powerline by a correspondent who discusses Hezbollah's aggression as part of Iran's strategy to buy time for nuclear-weapons development. As an aside, I want to say that all the nonsensical negotiations with Iran over nuclear energy and the like are a charade, and I do not doubt that many of the negotiators realize this. Iran will do anything, say anything, and lie about anything on its way to acquiring nuclear capability. See Ledeen above. You cannot escape the mullahs.
UPDATE II: Various sources reporting the Israeli soldiers wil be moved to Iran. Haaretz via Wizbang:
Israel has concrete evidence that Hezbollah plans to transfer the two Israel Defense Forces soldiers abducted Wednesday to Iran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said Thursday.
"We have concrete evidence that Hezbollah plans to transfer the kidnapped soldiers to Iran. As a result, Israel views Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and Iran as the main players in the axis of terror and hate that endangers not only Israel, but the entire world," AFP quoted Deputy Director General of the Foreign Ministry Gideon Meir as saying.
Eventually this will all sink in, in some places more quickly than others.
UPDATE III: At the new Townhall.com site, Hugh Hewitt hosts a Michael Medved post arguing that these events should settle, once and for all, any illusions about the "land for peace" strategy, and recommends a new one:
In place of "Land for Peace," the Israeli political activist and columnist Yael Amishav (who happens to be married to my father) suggests a new concept of "Land for Terror." For each terror attack across the border, Israel will seize more land --- establishing a publicly declared ratio of acres-per-casualties. The seizures must be firm, decisive and immediate-- and long term, if not permanent. "The Land for Terror" concept guarantees negative consequences for outrageous behavior....
