George Allen apologizes directly to S.R. Sidarth for his "macaca" remark and, with a straight face, reporters Michael Shear and Tim Craig write:
After Democratic challenger James Webb's campaign posted Sidarth's video on the Internet, the incident became national news and has left Allen on the defensive.
The incident "became" national news after the Post "decided to write about it" in multiple front-page stories, a blazing if somewhat comic editorial ("we don't know what he meant, but it's terrible") and a score of attacks across other post.com media including blogs and video.
It somehow, passively, mysteriously, became national news.

Virginia Sen. George Allen (R) a known racist in African-American circles, has apologized directly to S.R. Sidarth yesterday, telling the 20-year-old Democratic campaign staffer that he was sorry for offending him with remarks that have generated nationwide criticism for being racially insensitive. The only support this Red Neck Senator is getting these days is from George Bush, (Surprise, Surprise!) Newsbusters, Michelle Malkin and her loyal HotAir crowd.
