When Pope Benedict quotes a 14th Century Byzantine emperor's belief that conversion by the sword was an example of evil in Islam, we get the usual seething offended effigy-burning seething outrage.
When reporters Steven Centanni and Olaf Wiig are converted by the sword, we... do not.
It is good to know what really upsets you.

RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM IS EXTREMELY STUPID.
Anyone that thinks their religion makes them somehow more morally correct or inherently superior is one...dumb...fu**.
If one needs a crutch that big, they obviously must be missing something just as big.
The greater is one's intellect, the more likely he is to create his own moral universe. The dumber one is, the more he needs his sense of right and wrong to be thrust upon him by organized religion - unfortunately, this means that the dumbest brutes of the human race are often its most religious.

Hmmm...anyway, I was just saying exactly the same thing about Centanni and Wiig to my husband!
I also noted that Catholics have reformed themselves -- thank God.

Rahul, ah, no. One can certainly say the dumbest brutes of the human race are often its most religious, but that's because they're human, not because they're religious. So far, the most successful brutes in history were the pagans or Aryan supremacists in the case of Nazi Germany and atheist communists in the Soviet Union and Communist China.
